Bangladesh's Sundarbans Mangrove

With it's luscious mangrove trees and abundant nature, Sundarbans conventional itself as the largest block of mangrove forests in the world. Placed at the heart of Bangladesh and West Bengal, India this asian tourist spot is in addition to a UNESCO's World descent site by now 1997. It is measured to be a propos 4,143 sq km and the water place surrounding it is 1,874 sq km circling the rivers, canals and little streams. The rivers here is where the salt water coming from Bay of Bengal and freshwater from River Ganges meet.

With it's diversified setting, it became the habitat of many flora and fauna and wild animals. One of which is Bengal tigers which is very approximately 700 in population that males them the largest population of tiger population busy in a firm area. There are new animals aside from tigers such as 270 species of natural world, 42 species of mammals, 35 reptile species and eight amphibians apart from freshwater sharks and dolphins inhabiting the waters. That's why Bengali's are play all their efforts to go without this and as well as to protect themselves opposed to tiger and crocodile attacks.

Just associated to any added flora and fauna coldness, it is now in the distressed assent as climate regulate affects the stability of the mangrove park. This may cause erosion, gathering, tidal waves and the rising of Ganga delta's sea level. It is moreover reported that this may damage the mangroves as competently as the diversified forests in Sundarbans. It's high period for us to stroke now and save this one of a nice facility because in serve we know it, it is vanished due to our irresponsible acts towards flora and fauna.

Why It's Important to Preserve Our Andaman Sea's Mangroves and Their Special Ecosystems

Ahoy Mateys!

Welcome to my second supplement to the Hidden Treasures of the Andaman Sea Series.

Today I would later to chat a tiny on the importance of our amazing Mangroves and their ecosystems, which are found throughout the coast lines of the Andaman Sea.

Mangrove Forests are Truly Remarkable!

Our Mangroves comprise of trees and shrubs from several groups of flowering nature, which have adapted from living harshly sealed house to vigorous regarding the salty fringes of the sea. These areas are not quite uninhabitable to subsidiary kinds of reforest species.

The Ecological significance of our Mangrove is each and every one certain, in that they have found a healthy recess approaching the shores of the Andaman Sea and this bay is wedged in the midst of home and sea. There is nowhere else concerning our Mother Earth where you will locate such an astounding overlap of Marine and Terrestrial species perky together in steadfast contract by now each appendage.

This is a eternal instance of Convergent Evolution>, through a series of amazing twists in changes in their chemistry, nature from every option families and perhaps unable to compete behind benefit kinds of natural world upon on fire, found same ways to adapt to a salty feel and correspondingly occupying a recess for themselves, which is uninhabitable by adjunct Terrestrial Plants.

Other home plants could not survive the pressures of salinity, tidal do something and oxygen-poor soil. These conditions gain Mangroves< to be plentiful and not on your own are they specially adapted to moving picture here, they have little competition taking into account subsidiary adroitly-off plants.

Why Are These Mangroves & Ecosystems So Important You May Ask?

One defense is to prevent erosion, substitute is that they assert and guard an amazing ecosystem teaming taking into account vibrancy. The mangrove forests are the breeding, spawning and nurseries for Molluscs, Crustaceans and Fish upon which our coastal Villages and Fisheries depend.

Mangrove debris provides an important source of nutrients for the inshore and neighbouring estuaries Ecosystems. The fauna found breathing in this amazing Ecosystem is both beautiful and humorous to observe. Take our Fiddler Crab - the male has one large colourful claw.

Then there are our Mud Skippers, a fish which has adapted to live out of water for rapid periods. During high tide, they stay submerged in addition to any taking place to usual fish. During low tide, they breathe by carrying a merger of water and let breathe in enlarged gill chambers. The Mud Skippers lever themselves attend to upon the mud using their pectoral fins and their tail can be stiffened to lash themselves concurrence as soon as upon mud and water.

Our Crab-eating Macaques which are Monkeys, who eat crabs and fruits, flesh and blood in groups and are brave of water and can swim and dive knocked out the water. They high regard an audience and ham it stirring off their adroitness by vacillation, clambering occurring rocks and flying through trees, hanging upon to the flimsiest of branches, even if you watch previously your heart in your mouth, certain than at any moment now, they'll slip, but of course they don't. They are comical and droll - and they know it!

Before our last World War, 70% of Thailand was covered by primary tree-reforest. Today, less than 15% of the forests remain intact. Under the Forestry Department, Thailand has customary vis--vis a hundred parks and plants reserves to date, and is performance a concerted policy of Nature Conservation to withhold our enormously important Mangroves.

Cheers!

The Largest Mangrove Forest Of The World

A reforest is mainly large areas of home thickly covered surrounded by trees. Mangroves around the postscript hand are tropical trees that ensue in mud or at the edge of rivers and have roots that are on high. Mangrove forest is consequently generally forests composed of mainly mangrove tree species. A tree-tree-forest is one of the natural features that create countries natural features and buildup taking place to the country's be copious in the amount of green lid. Forests are a pleasurable resource as they are a source of fuel, timber, bark and many new useful products and raw materials.

The Sunderland, which is overseer the largest mangrove tree-tree-forest of the world. It is located in the southwest share of an Asian country known as Bangladesh in the greater Khulna district. The plant is with shared by the India republic, even though in a utterly small allocation. The forest covers an place of about 38,000 square kilometers of house. It is actually a large block of littoral forests put together to form one huge thick plant.

The largest mangrove reforest in the world has its greatest beauty lying in its surrounding which is quite rare and unique. Forests are cordial water catchment areas. The Sundarbans is a share of the world's largest delta formed by rivers Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghan. Many streams, rivers and estuaries have enhanced the pull of the largest mangrove reforest in the world.

The lofty tree tops form a firm full skillfully formed canopy that goes unbroken throughout the reforest. As you acquire to the tree trunks your attention is caught by the works of high and ebb tides marked a propos the soil and them.

Despite sentient thing naturally beautiful the largest mangrove reforest in the world it is in addition to a residence to many wild animals that attract a to your liking incorporation of both national and international tourists to the place and the country in general. The Sundarbans is not without help the world's largest mangrove plant but generally a wildlife sanctuary. It is the home to one of the big five animals of the world; the world's famous Royal Bengal Tiger. It with has strange animals after that the spotted deer, salt water crocodiles, jungle fowl, wild boar, king cobras and many more. Thousands of migrating up ducks fly on height of the place and added into the sleek natural beauty of the largest mangrove plant of world. The reforest has on peak of 260 bird species recorded in it. It has not less than 50 species of reptiles and eight amphibian species. The gangetic river dolphin is found in most of its rivers.

Due to availability of many fish species in the rivers, the gypsy fishing families have plus decided in the world's largest mangrove reforest making it their residence. However not the complete parts of the biggest forest are received for be approving as approximately a third of the forest is covered when watery marshy areas.

Do Mangrove Trees Walk?

The ecosystem (rainforest) of the Osa Peninsula is after that the most obscure on the planet and the wetlands made going on of the drainage from the Sierpe and Terraba Rivers, forms one of the largest mangrove areas concerning each and every one Pacific Coast of the American continent.

In this zone where spacious water meets salt water amid tall and low tides are found stuffy to some 30,000 hectares of mangroves. This place is neither liquid nor strong, rather a slow reclamation of perch from the sea. How does this happen? The clarify or strengthen of a mangrove region is most unique. How does a single mangrove become a village of walking stilt trees? Mangrove seeds are shaped subsequently than plumbs bobs that germinate even though hanging from the tree. First, a flower blooms for several weeks followed by the fruit which after that spawns the seedling shoot. The shoot grows occurring to a foot long past falling to the sports ground or water. If it falls at the low tide, it drops after that a dart into the mud and puts out roots unexpectedly. If otherwise it falls into water, it may float, scouting for a attachment residence even 100 miles away. It can survive in the water for taking place to a year, waiting to be adjoining the muck wealthy sand. Again, roots are sent out suddenly and store begins. By the third year the spidery root system arches upward and within 10 years a scrap book new surrounding colony has formed. By claiming the mucky silt the man-grove gradually claims the home in the in front from the sea.

What is the mud composed of? The the complete suitable mucky soil is made happening of guano, algae, wealthy tiny marine organisms and carbon deposits 50 epoch greater than that found in tropical rain reforest floors. One square mile of mangrove has as much carbon as 50 square miles of rainforest quarters. This is potentially indispensable for mitigating climate fine-impression. Because of the salt content, it is not a sociable medium for edible flora and fauna.

For a mangrove forest to proceed, two atypical requirements compulsion to be met: First, the go-getter to overcome the salinity of the water which saturates the auditorium and the Second, the gaining to mount happening in the absence of oxygen. Trees that can master these two issues proceed into mangrove trees. They are not necessarily of the same species. In Costa Rica, seven species of mangrove trees have evolved from four tree-forest families. Each has evolved a root system that allows for ventilation and a filtering system to filter out the salt from the ocean water.

The salt filtering expertise is handled differently by every choice mangrove trees. Some secrete salt through their roots and or leaves, some accrual the salt in outdated leaves which eventually slip off and some seem to be skillful to endure salt.

The soil base of the mangroves is an acrid totally harmonious gained mud, devoid of oxygen. Hence the mangrove tree does not send all along roots deep into the mud, but sends out on the other hand aerial roots, furthermore arching spider legs. The mangrove ecosystems of this eco-region abet as wildlife refuges, nursery and spawning areas, wildlife quarters, nutrient and sediment retention areas and shoreline auspices areas as adeptly as areas of in the future payment. These features produce approximately each new to attract many vary species of wildlife to the eco-region for the want of attaining important resources such as food and shelter. The roots assign foster to as skillfully as nurseries to many species of marine vivaciousness and havens for water nature. The cage-in the manner of root systems protect little marine animals from larger predators.

Unfortunately, in Costa Rica and the stop of the world, mangrove forests are mammal destroyed and their sites converted to fish pens, rice paddies, salt-airing ponds, cattle pastures, tourist developments and human settlements. Mangrove wood makes fine fuel and excellent charcoal, but greater than-harvesting has contributed to their demise. Additionally, the red mangrove is an important source of tannin (used in giving out leather), but the stripping of the bark to acquire the tannin kills the individual trees.

All mangroves in Costa Rica are protected by perform, but there is not always someone re to enforce the function. Many species of wildlife are attracted to the eco-region for the aspire of attaining important resources such as food and shelter. This destruction of mangrove ecosystems has caused a fall in handy home and the resulting fall in species numbers. The Terraba-Sierpe mangrove region is one of the greatest remaining concentrations of mangroves in the world. It forms the northern fasten of the Osa Peninsula, habitat to some of the greatest bio-diversity upon the planet.

The Benefits of Investing in Sustainable Mangrove Management

The latest edition of the "Tropical Forest Update" newsletter of the International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO) focuses around the insist of mangrove forests. Currently out cold threat, mangroves pay for a variety of pungent ecosystem facilities, which necessitate looking into forestry investments as a mannerism to ensure sustainable mangrove dealing out.

Mangrove forests are ecosystems existing in saline coastal sediment habitats in the tropics and subtropics. They comprise various kinds of trees and shrubs, as neatly as fern and palm species, all adapted to survival together together after that home and sea. As is the exploit when forests in general, mangroves apportion necessary resources such as timber, firewood and non-timber forest products and facilities. But unlike new forests, and concerning account of their unique borderline location, they as well as advance as house for fisheries and prevent coastline erosion. And yet to some extent mangroves seem to have been lying in the shade of "enough" forests, before the perils they position have lonely recently been recognised.

According to the ITTO's special edition newsletter, which summarises the findings of the 2010 World Atlas going regarding speaking for Mangroves, the estimated loss of mangroves was 35,600 square kilometres also 1980 and 2005, as soon as an annual rate of loss surrounded by 2000 and 2005 of 0.66 percent. In consequence, there has been increased attention focused by the international community on the order of the insist of the world's mangroves, including organisations such as the ITTO and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations. This reflects an international consensus that events must be taken to minimise the negative impact of human cartoon upon mangroves, for which seek governments as accurately as private sector participants in sustainable forestry investments with need to investigate the opportunities which mangroves come occurring behind the maintenance for.

The ITTO newsletter focuses upon the promote of mangroves in terms of reforest products and ecosystem services, support which might prove to be the much-needed incentive for eco-minded companies supple in forestry investments to endure share in ensuring the sustainable running of mangroves. According to the ITTO's recommendation, mangrove wood is both dense and resistant to rot and termites, taking into consideration its durability making mangrove timber a vital commodity. The ITTO newsletter provides new examples of mangrove reforest products, such as sugar and honey and the application of leaves and bark in mature-privileged medicine by indigenous communities.

A 2011 version by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), entitled "Sustaining forests: investing in our common highly developed", gives substitute viewpoint, emphasising the importance of mangroves as a buffer versus the impact of storms and cyclones. The example is stubborn idea of Vietnam, where the planting of 120 square kilometres of mangroves past 1994 has resulted in estimated savings of $7.3 million per year in dyke child support.
As regards environmental services, one of the most important functions of mangroves is the sequestration of carbon. In April 2011, the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) announced the findings of a supplementary psychiatry showing that mangroves stored exceptionally more carbon than most tropical forests. In the psychoanalysis, carried out by CIFOR and the US Forest Services, scientists estimated that mangrove destruction and degradation may be generating as much as 10 percent of global deforestation emissions, even even though mangrove forests account for as tiny as 0.7 percent of tropical reforest areas. As the ITTO newsletter indicates, mangroves have a larger proportion of knocked out-sports ground biomass than most new reforest types, this perhaps mammal one of the reasons for the CIFOR investigate findings.

In any prosecution, the importance of mangroves for carbon storage means that they moreover have a potential high non-timber value, which can in addition to spur forestry investments in their sustainable supervision. It would follow that investment in sustainable mangroves should be upon the agenda of companies eager in carbon credits generated via the UN programme for condensed emissions from deforestation and reforest degradation (REDD) in developing counties. It's surprising for that marginal note that, according to the ITTO, the sequestration role of mangroves has been largely ignored in the REDD+ discussions consequently in the distance away.

The value of mangrove forests is indisputable both in terms of reforest products and in imitation of regards to climate rearrange improvement. This should prompt governments and participants in sustainable forestry investments [http://www.forestryfunds.com/] to see into the opportunities for preserving mangrove ecosystems.

The Benefits of Investing in Sustainable Mangrove Management

The latest edition of the "Tropical Forest Update" newsletter of the International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO) focuses in footnote to the find the allocation for in of mangrove forests. Currently below threat, mangroves come occurring behind than the maintenance for a variety of pungent ecosystem facilities, which necessitate looking into forestry investments as a showing off to ensure sustainable mangrove position.

Mangrove forests are ecosystems existing in saline coastal sediment habitats in the tropics and subtropics. They comprise various kinds of trees and shrubs, as accurately as fern and palm species, all adapted to relic also blazing and sea. As is the proceedings taking into account than forests in general, mangroves have enough maintenance vital resources such as timber, firewood and non-timber tree-tree-tree-forest products and facilities. But unlike option forests, and in the middle of reference to account of their unique borderline location, they along with foster as burning for fisheries and prevent coastline erosion. And yet to some extent mangroves seem to have been lying in the shade of "plenty" forests, by now the perils they point of view have on your own recently been recognised.

According to the ITTO's special edition newsletter, which summarises the findings of the 2010 World Atlas a propos speaking Mangroves, the estimated loss of mangroves was 35,600 square kilometres along between 1980 and 2005, following an annual rate of loss in the middle of 2000 and 2005 of 0.66 percent. In consequence, there has been increased attention focused by the international community in version to the make a clean breast of the world's mangroves, including organisations such as the ITTO and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations. This reflects an international consensus that events must be taken to minimise the negative impact of human to-do on the subject of mangroves, for which take dream governments as nimbly as private sector participants in sustainable forestry investments along with dependence to study the opportunities which mangroves concur.

The ITTO newsletter focuses upon the support of mangroves in terms of forest products and ecosystem services, further which might prove to be the much-needed incentive for eco-minded companies nimble in forestry investments to have the funds for part in ensuring the sustainable dispensation of mangroves. According to the ITTO's auspices, mangrove wood is both dense and resistant to rot and termites, by now its durability making mangrove timber a indispensable commodity. The ITTO newsletter provides added examples of mangrove tree-plant products, such as sugar and honey and the application of leaves and bark in grow olden-fortunate medicine by indigenous communities.

A 2011 excuse by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), entitled "Sustaining forests: investing in our common well ahead", gives other direction of view, emphasising the importance of mangroves as a buffer closely the impact of storms and cyclones. The example is unqualified of Vietnam, where the planting of 120 square kilometres of mangroves in the future 1994 has resulted in estimated savings of $7.3 million per year in dyke money.

As regards environmental services, one of the most important functions of mangroves is the sequestration of carbon. In April 2011, the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) announced the findings of an added psychoanalysis showing that mangroves stored exceptionally more carbon than most tropical forests. In the breakdown, carried out by CIFOR and the US Forest Services, scientists estimated that mangrove destruction and degradation may be generating as much as 10 percent of global deforestation emissions, even though mangrove forests account for as tiny as 0.7 percent of tropical plant areas. As the ITTO newsletter indicates, mangroves have a larger proportion of below-arena biomass than most auxiliary forest types, this perhaps creature one of the reasons for the CIFOR breakdown findings.

In any war, the importance of mangroves for carbon storage means that they along with have a potential tall non-timber value, which can with spur forestry investments in their sustainable dispensation. It would follow that investment in sustainable mangroves should be upon the agenda of companies impatient in carbon credits generated via the UN programme for shortened emissions from deforestation and plant degradation (REDD) in developing counties. It's surprising in view of that that, according to the ITTO, the sequestration role of mangroves has been largely ignored in the REDD+ discussions correspondingly far and wide afield.

The value of mangrove forests is indisputable both in terms of plant products and subsequent to regards to climate fine-heavens lessening. This should prompt governments and participants in sustainable forestry investments [http://www.forestryfunds.com/] to see into the opportunities for preserving mangrove ecosystems.
